Vaulted Ceilings Causing Heat/Cold Transfer in Centreville, VA
Challenge
This Centreville, VA homeowner was complaining that their master bedroom was hot in the summer and cold in the winter. After a thorough inspection by Comfenergy we found no attic air sealing and fiberglass batt insulation in the vertical attic walls. Fiberglass is only good if it is "trapped" between two air tight materials. Fiberglass allows air through it and behind it, thus radiating heat on the walls and making the room behind it uncomfortable.
Solution
Comfenergy air sealed the attic, added SilverGlo foam boards to the vertical walls, and added another 10" of cellulose insulation. Their bedroom will be warm and cozy this winter and cool and comfortable this summer.
