Cold Floors and Freezing Water Lines - Leesburg, VA
Challenge
This Leesburg, VA homeonwer had a sun room/addition added to the back of their home. It was beautiful, but it had cold floors and an exposed water line that would freeze in the winter. The addition was built with open/exposed areas beneath it. The only insulation was fiberglass batts that allow cold air to travel around and through - this was making the floors above cold in the winter and causing the water lines to freeze.
Solution
Comfenergy was hired to solve these problems. We put together a prescription involving foam boards and foam spray. First, SilverGlo foam boards were used to protect the water lines from the cold air and allow them to "communicate" with the heat from above. Once the boards were in place, we used 2 part closed cell foam spray to put a 2" thick air and thermal barrier under the entire floor and around the water lines.
Once this was done, the fiberglass batts were re-installed and secured in place with 1"x2" wood strips.
Problem solved once again!
