Simple Solutions but Huge Impact - Leesburg, VA

Challenge

This Leesburg, VA homeowner was looking to make the top floor of their home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. It's EASY to insulate your attic, but don't miss the simple details that will greatly impact the comfort! Things like the attic hatch, skylights, air sealing leakage points from plumbing and electrical holes, and recessed can lights can contribute to air leakage.

Solution

Comfenergy moved the existing fiberglass insulation around to find leakage points and air seal them with one part foam. The can lights were covered, and attic hatch sealed/insulated properly. The skylight was sprayed with 3" of 2-part, closed cell foam spray. Then, a nice layer of TruSoft cellulose insulation was blown over top of everything.

These simple details will have a HUGE impact over just "adding insulation".
