This Shepardstown, WV homeowner had multiple complants: Cold floors in the winter, a wet crawl space resulting in mildew odors, and a desire to lower indoor air pollutants.
It's amazing how many things we can solve with one total solution.
Solution
We found that all of the issues listed were a result of a poorly insulated crawl space. We put together a single prescription for this homeowner to solve all the problems at once.
Project Summary
Evaluator: Shayne Sandner
This Shepardstown, WV homeowner had multiple issues they were trying to solve.
Here is a before picture. Several things to note: 1. Very thin 6 mil plastic vapor barrier with gaps and holes. 2. Dryer vent throwing hot humid air into the crawl.
Before: No wall insulation to keep the crawl conditioned.
Comfenergy removed the old vapor barrier and installed dimple matting to allow water to dry if the dirt floor ever gets wet.
Next, TerraBlock floor insulation was installed to keep the Earth from "sucking" the heat out of the crawl space.
A new sump pump was installed to remove any water that might enter the crawl space.
The finished product with 20 mil "CleanSpace" anti-microbial vapor barrier.
2" of closed cell foam spray was installed on the walls to keep the crawl space "conditioned"
