Cellulose Wall Spray in Burke, VA
Challenge
This new construction project in Burke, VA was looking for energy efficient wall insulation. The customer did not want fiberglass insulation as he realized how ineffective it is, but spray foam was slightly out of his budget.
Wall Spray Cellulose turned out to be a great system for this project. Green insulation, great performance as wall insulation, and 100% yield of material!
Solution
Comfenergy worked with the customer to install wet spray cellulose wall insulation. This process has a mist of water added to stabilized cellulose insulation to form a monolithic block of cellulose in the wall cavity. The material has the opportunity to build in every small gap of the wall that you are working to fill. There are no opportunities for air gaps or voids that would lead to decreases in the thermal protection of the insulation system.
Additionally, cellulose is less susceptible to wind washing effects and less likely to decrease in performance with temperature change. It is simply a better insulating material when installed using the method described in this case study.
Financially, there is a 15% premium that is paid to move from fiberglass to cellulose with performance that is twice as good. The system is a bit messy to install, but has literally zero waste, as all over spray is re-used in the system.
