Sweating Duct Work-Fairfax, VA
Challenge
This Fairfax townhome had issues with the duct work sweating in the 4th floor HVAC closet. If you look at the pictures, you can see that the cause was hot/humid air entering the soffits on the back side of the home. This hot/humid air then traveled across the top of the closet, and fell through cracks and other openings into the closet to touch the cold HVAC duct work. The sweating was so bad it literally was making the drywall ceiling sag, grow mildew, and water pool on the floors.
Solution
Comfenergy removed the drywall from the ceiling, and the duct work to access the areas above. We used a closed cell froth pack to seal and insulate the back wall of the closet where heat was radiating through. Then 2" foam boards were used to build a false ceiling of sorts and allow us to spray foam the ceiling. The closet is now air tight and well insulated.
No more pools of water or mildew for this homeowner!!!
