Sweating Ducts - Annandale, VA

Challenge

A referral from Eric Glowacki at Twin Tech LLC HVAC led to this Annandale, VA homeowner reaching out to Comfenergy. He was experiencing sweating duct works lead to the discovery of an "open rim joist".

The details of construction for this home resulted in sweating ducts along the exterior of the home, and in an interior room.  Mr. Glowacki's ability to problem solve lead him to realize that the issue was related to the building envelope and caused him to call Comfenergy for help.

Solution

Dissassembly of the cantilevered bay window exposed the issue.  The solution was simple; block the open rim joist so that warm moist air could not reach the cold duct work and the problems were solved. 

For good measure, we also sealed the balance of the rim joist in this room to make sure that there were no pathways allowing hot air to enter the room.
