This Alexandria, VA homeowner had done their homework on our web page. They learned how a vented crawl space can make floors warmer, lessen wintery drafts, lower summer time humidity, and keep pipes from freezing.
They called Comfenergy and asked specifically for this treatment, and we delivered!!
Solution
The following pictures shows the process we take when encapsulating a vented crawl space.

This Alexandria, VA homeowner did their homework on our web site and wanted their vented crawl space encapsulated.
Here is a before picture. The following pics show the process of crawl space encapsulation.
First, all of the trash and other debris is removed and disposed of. The outside vents are blocked off with foam boards. Then, we install dimple matting to allow ground water and/or humidity the ability to dry out.
Then, TerraBlock ground insulation is installed. This keeps the Earth from absorbing the heat form the crawl space.
Next, a 20mil, anti-microbial vapor barrier called CleanSpace is installed. Notice how it rolls up the side walls to make a complete vapor barrier.
The final product installed is a 2" thick closed cell spray foam on the walls and rim joists.
Another shot of the finished product.
Finally, a new sump/water alarm is installed. In case of a pipe bursting this would alert the homeowner with a very loud alarm.
