This Falls Church, Va homeowner was looking for ways to lower their utility bills. The AC and furnace seemed to run all the time when heating and cooling.
Solution
Upon a comfort and energy evaluation by Comfenergy we found a few glaring reasons the bills were so high.
Air leakage through the top floor of the home allowed heat to escape. Unconditioned air was entering at the lower level through rim joists. The bathroom exhaust fans merely vented into the attic. The pull down attic stairs leaked like crazy.
All these easily solved by Comfenergy!

The bathroom exhaust fans merely vented into the attic. This is bad bad bad! We air sealed the air leakage points before adding insulation.
Here's a shot of the new, insulated bathroom exhaust fan venting through the roof and out of the attic. Notice the newly insulated TruSoft cellulose to an R60 value!
Measuring rulers placed throughout the attic to guarantee and R60 insulation value!
An attic tent is installed to keep heating and cooling from escaping from the home.
The leaky rim joists in the basement were sealed and insulated using closed cell spray foam
