A homeowner in Fairfax, VA wanted to make the rooms over the garage in his home warmer in the winter. Garages are not heated but since the rooms above them are they must be insulated. Fiberglass batts leave lots of space for air to circulate around them, eliminating their R-value. This results in drafty and cold floors upstairs. We remove a section of drywall from the garage ceiling of the garage, and dense pack blown in cellulose insulation into the floor. This compresses existing fiberglass batts and adds much more insulation value. The density stops airflow through the floor from air leaks. Now this homeowner has much warmer rooms above his garage.
