Photo Album: Addressing a Crawlspace Leaking Groundwater in Stafford, VA
A homeowner in Stafford, VA had a vented crawlspace that was wet and moldy. When they got a heavy rain the soil got saturated causing a great moisture load in the house air to feed mold and odors for months after the rain. The outside air came into the crawl space and up through the house. This produced the relative humidity in the home to go way up, condensation, mold, and allowed insects and other pests to flourish. This damp air was also harder to heat and cool. The Comfenergy crew installed a SmartSump at the low spot of the crawl space to collect water and pump it outside. Smart Pipe was installed around the perimeter of the crawl space to drain water from the walls, footing, and floor, and carry it to the sump pump. The vents and air leaks were sealed and the crawl space walls had CleanSpace liner installed to them. CleanSpace dimple matting is placed on the dirt floor to allow water to travel through it, followed by a 20 mil thick CleanSpace encapsulation liner.
Vented & Dirt Floor Crawl Space
This vented, dirt floor crawl space was leaking groundwater every time it rained heavily.
Comfenergy Workers Lay Smart Pipe
Comfenergy workers lay Smart Pipe around the perimeter of the crawl space. Smart Pipe will never clog with dirt and is designed just for dirt crawl spaces.
CleanSpace is Installed Along the Crawl Space Walls
A Comfenergy crew member installs CleanSpace along the crawl space walls to feed any water that comes through the block walls to the Smart Pipe.
CleanSpace Drainage Matting
CleanSpace drainage matting is installed over the dirt floor. This creates an airspace for water to flow and a thermal break. This solution is patented.
SmartSump is Installed
SmartSumps are designed just for crawl spaces to work airtight with the CleanSpace System. It has a 1/3hp pump, airtight lid, and alarm that sounds in the event of pump failure or a plumbing leak.
