The Site
Here is the site our our critter problem! This lovely home in Alexandria, Virginia is where we will clean out the crawl spaces and install an air and vapor tight system.
The Scene
Upon arriving at the home, we cracked open the hatch into the crawlspace and this was the scene awaiting us.
More Before Shots
Here is another photo of the space before we got there!

Another before photo!
The First Layer
The waterproofing/airtight system we install is comprised or either 2 or 3 layers depending on what your home specifically needs. The first is CleanSpace Drainage Matting which is what is featured in this photo.
The First Step: 2
The bumpy nature of the CleanSpace Drainage Matting is crucial. These little pockets of space allow room for the natural processes of the earth beneath to continue to operate as usual without interrupting our system.
An Extra Step
This photo is of TerraBlock, the second, and a non-compulsory step depending on your home. In this home in particular the TerraBlock was not needed, but this is what it would look like if it was installed. The significance of this step is that the TerraBlock acts as a thermal barrier which not every home needs.
The Next Layer
The next and last layer in the waterproofing system is the CleanSpace Liner. This is the glossy sheet you see over the top. This 7-ply liner is the actual waterproofing agent.
CleanSpace Liner
This patent-protected product is used in crawlspaces, basements, and other spaces that may need to be sealed.
The Thermal Insulator
The final step is to thermally insulate the walls of the crawl space. In this case we used spray foam. After spray foaming the walls, we will fashion a new hatch cover and be on our way!
