Photo Album: Great Falls VA Attic Insulation and New Hatch Cover
This Great Falls VA homeowner had several issues with the comfort of their home and called us to help. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Eric did a whole home inspection and identified a number of products and services that would help. After addressing some needs in the crawl space that would help improve the air quality inside the home, Eric recommended having the existing attic insulation removed so that the attic floor could be air sealed with Zyp Foam. Several areas in the attic had damning build to create a way to contain the Tru Soft cellulose insulation that would later be blown in. These damns would keep the insulation away from the HVAC system and ducts in the attic and allowed for a space at the attic hatch where someone could stand and maneuver around if they needed to. Finally, a new attic hatch cover was installed to seal up the entrance and keep conditioned air from the living space below where it needed to be.
Attic Hatch Before
The existing opening to this attic was just a wooden door with nothing sealing the air around it.
Attic Before
This area would soon be air sealed with Zyp Foam and have damning built up around it along with a more purposeful attic hatch and landing.
Attic Hatch After
After damning was built up around the attic hatch landing to contain the Tru Soft cellulose insulation, a new attic hatch cover was installed. This will zip closed and create and air seal.
Attic Hatch Cover
A second level of closure now keeps conditioned air from leaking into the attic above.
Attic After
The HVAC system is now blocked off and protected from the Tru Soft cellulose insulation that was blown into the attic to insulate the now air sealed attic floor.
