Photo Album: Culpeper VA Attic Decking, Air Sealing and Insulation
This homeowner in Culpeper VA was not comfortable in the top floor of their home year round. They called us to see if we would be able to find a solution to help. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Matt went out to do a whole home inspection and was able to identify several issues with the attic that would be able to be fixed. Our production crew removed all of the old, thin insulation in order to clear the space and allow for the use of Zyp Foam to air seal the gaps and cracks that had been allowing conditioned air to escape the rooms below the attic. The HVACT ducts were insulated with Spray Foam at a joint where several ducts met, helping to eliminate a duct sweating problem that had been present. Attic decking was built up in several areas to allow for utility technicians to walk around if access was needed and to keep the Tru Soft cellulose insulation in place once blown in. This attic will keep the rooms and conditioned air below safe and in place not, making the home more comfortable and more energy efficient.
Attic Before
The existing insulation was thin in many spots, providing little to no insulation value for the attic.
Attic Before
Thin insulation was part of what had this home feeling uncomfortable year round. This would all be removed in order to allow for air sealing with Zyp Foam.
Old Insulation Removal
The thin insulation would be removed by our production team and replaced with new Tru Soft cellulose insulation.
Air Sealing
With old insulation removed, Zyp Foam was used to air seal the attic floor. This will keep the conditioned air in the rooms below from escaping into the attic.
Attic Decking and Air Sealing
This decking was framed out and built to retain insulation where needed and allow for access to the utility units in the attic if service is needed.
Attic After
Air Sealed with Zyp Foam and Insulated with Tru Soft cellulose insulation.
