Photo Album: Fairfax VA Attic Radiant Barrier, Air Seal and Insulation
This Fairfax VA home was the recipient of a full attic transformation. The home was uncomfortable from one room to the next and the energy bills were more expensive than the homeowners would have liked. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Jon was able to visit with the clients and designed a project for the home that included multiple products and services to get the best possible results.
Our Production Crew removed the old insulation and then used Zyp Foam in the small cracks and gaps in the attic floor to properly air seal. A section of attic decking was built and insulated below it, allowing for additional storage and access to move around the space. A radiant barrier was installed on the underside of the roof to help block out radiant heat from the sun outside. This would help to reduce the temperature inside the attic during hotter months of the year. The team finally blew in Tru Soft cellulose insulation to cover the attic floors and create the best possible Insulation R value to keep the space controlled. Improved comfort in the rooms below and reduced energy bills will be the benefits to the homeowners after the completion of their home project.
Attic Before
Multiple forms of insulation had been used to try and help improve the performance of this attic. The lack of proper air sealing resulted in the insulation continuing to fail.
Production Crew In Action
Our crew used their tools and machinery to remove all of the old insulation from the attic.
Insulation Removal
Removed from the attic and bagged for proper disposal, our production crew will dispose of the old insulation.
Attic Project In Progress
With the old insulation removed and air sealing done with Zyp Foam, the radiant barrier was installed.
Crew Working
Our production crew properly installed and attached the radiant barrier along the base of the attic walls and under side of the roof.
Air Sealing with Zyp Foam
Zyp Foam seals up the small gaps and cracks in the attic floor. This will prevent the uncontrolled flow of air in and out of the attic.
Radiant Barrier
Markers have been set to measure the proper levels of insulation to blow in.
Blown Insulation
Tru Soft cellulose insulation was blown in to cover the surface of the attic.
