Attic Insulation Photo Album: Making an Upstairs Level More Comfortable in Bumpass, VA

Homeowners living in Bumpass, VA wanted to make their upstairs more comfortable year round. The upper level was always too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. They gave Comfenergy a call to come and fix the issue. After our sales professional did a thorough inspection of the home, our crew got to work. We removed all of the old and inefficient attic insulation first and disposed of it. We then air sealed and insulated the attic using ZypFoam for sealing and TruSoft cellulose for insulation. We also installed a SuperPlatform Catwalk so the homeowner could still access and use the access for storage and retention dams to keep the insulation out of the storage area. Finally, we installed Stefans Radiant Barrier along the roof rafters to reflect radiant roof heat away and we encapsulated the duct system in the attic using our Tight N' True Boot Encapsulation and Tight N' True Foam Duct Encapsulation. These lovely homeowners now have an upstairs that feels much better no matter what time of year it is and their home is more energy efficient as well.

Air Sealing the Attic Floor

Every accessible penetration and top plate is sealed with expanding polyurethane foam. All of the branch line connection points in the duct system are also sealed.

Ready for New Insulation

All of the old dirty, inefficient insulation is removed and disposed of. This attic is air sealed and ready for the TruSoft Cellulose Insulation to be blown in.

This decking allows the customer to access the attic for storage.

Tight N' True Duct Boot Encapsulation

Here we see the ductwork that runs through the attic. Ductwork in the attic always should be sealed and insulated. You can see the spray foam around the ends of the flex duct work, where it meets the boots, creating an airtight seal.
