Attic Insulation Photo Album: West Springfield VA air sealing and insulation
This home in West Springfield VA had uncontrolled air moving freely in and out of the attic and air that had been conditioned by the HVAC system being lost through several seams, cracks, and holes in the walls and ceiling. Poor air sealing of the home can cause high energy bills when your HVAC system has to repeatedly create hot or cold air that is quickly lost. External air that is allowed to come into an attic can also result in uneven temperatures across the home as well as poorly functioning HVAC ducts. This attic was air sealed using Zyp Foam and then filled with more blown insulation. We used spray foam to seal up the rim joists on the lower floor of the home in order to keep conditioned air from moving freely. Containing the conditioned air in the home helps to keep the energy costs down and creates a more comfortable environment in the home.
Poor air seal
A hole in the drywall will allow air to pass through it.
Attic vent
This allowed unconditioned air to come into the attic.
