Attic Insulation Photo Album: Ashburn VA attic and rim joist spray foam

This Ashburn VA homeowner was experiencing comfort issues related to a loft in their home that felt different from the other rooms in their home. Additionally they were looking for solutions to help reduce the likelihood of rodents getting into their attic. Our Sale Professional Carl Depner was able to perform a whole home inspection and identified several option to help. The old insulation in the attic was removed, the attic was air sealed to keep conditioned air from the living spaces in the home from escaping into the attic. The attic was then reinsulated with TruSoft Cellulose blown insulation (which is coated with material that helps keep rodents away) and then spray foam was used on the attic walls and seams to insulate and seal off external air from coming in. Finally, the rim joists in the lower part of the home were also filled with spray foam to keep external air and outside temperatures from impacting the home. All these services combined to help create a more effective envelope for the air in this home along with reducing the need for the HVAC system to work as often as it had before. Healthier air, reduced likelihood of rodents and reduced energy costs were the end benefits for the home and clients.

Old insualtion in the attic

Old insulation which had some uninited guests living in it. Most rodents are fans of traditional insualtion as it has nothing to discourage their presence and is warm when tirn up and used for nesting. The open panel of the ceiling was uninsulated and allowing external heat and cold to impact the temperature in the attic.

Attic Spray foam

This ceiling panel in the attic is now sealed and covered with spray foam. This will insulate and keep external temperatures from having an impact on the attic.

Wall panel insulation and spray foam

More solutions to keep external air out and external temperatures from impacting the inside of the attic. This will control the air temperatures better and reduce energy costs for the homeowner.

These insulation panels are placed her before being covered in spray foam. This adds an extra layer of protection and helps to seal up the space so that air can not move freely in and out of the attic.
