Attic Insulation Photo Album: Sterling VA Attic Air Sealing and Panel Insulation

This Sterling VA homeowner had concerns around the comfort of their house. They had excessive heat and cold at different times of year, rooms that were different temperatures than others in the home and they had noticed wet spots in the ceilings. After calling Comfenergy to try and get help, our Home Performance Sales Pro Carl went out to visit and did a whole home inspection. Carl was able to find several issues that were leading to the problems the homeowner was concerned about. Many of the HVAC ducts for the home were in places that got hot in the summer and cold in the winter. This had a reverse impact on the ait being passed through the ducts to heat and or cool the home and in some spots lead to condensation or "duct sweating" which was causing the water spots. Carl recommended having the HVAC ducts encapsulated with spray fom in some areas of the home and a full air seal and insulation makeover in the attic.

Attic Entry Management

Constructing a damn around the attic hatch allows for insulation to fill up the attic but not fall below into the living spaces of the home if anyone needs to access the attic in the future. the attic walls have been covered with Silver Glo insulation panels and air sealed with Zyp Foam.

Insulation Removal

The old insulation has been removed in order to air seal the gaps and cracks in the attic flooring with Zyp Foam. Afterwards Tru Soft cellulose insulation will be blown in to fill up the space.
