Attic Insulation Photo Album: Clifton VA Attic Air Seal and Insulation

This Clifton VA home had multiple Home Performance issues due to age and an outdated style of insulation in the attic. A bathroom vent pipe had come dislodged and was venting humid bathroom air into the attic which had an open fan vent which was allowing external air to come into the attic as well. The different air sources for the attic were contributing dust and allergens into the space which was collecting in the existing insulation, making it look dirty and old. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Eric visited the home and was able to design a plan for the attic to address everything and make the home more comfortable while lowering the energy cost to heat and cool it. Our Production crew removed the old insulation, air sealed the small gaps and cracks in the attic floor with Zyp Foam, installed can light covers over all of the light fixtures with Zyp Foam air sealing them at their bases, installed Silver Glo panel insulation on a thin attic wall, reattached the loose vent and finally covered over the fan allowing outside air to come in. Finally, Tru Soft cellulose insulation was blown in to cover the entire surface of the attic.

Open Attic Vent

This open vent vent was allowing air to move freely in and out of the attic.

This bathroom vent pipe was loose and exhausting air from the bathroom into the attic.

Can Light Covers

These covers keep air and heat from passing through the can light fixtures in the ceiling. Zyp foam was used to air seal them at the base.

Attic Before Old Insulation

More old insulation, dirty from the dust and allergens allowed into the attic air. This open space is an exposed area where no insulation was working to keep the temperatures in the rooms below controlled.

Air Sealing

Zyp Foam is used to air seal the small cracks and gaps in the attic where air was previously able to pas through. This keeps conditioned air from escaping the rooms of the home below.

Insulation Upgrade

Silver Glo panel insulation was installed on the wall of the attic and Tru Soft cellulose insulation was blown in to fill the rest of the attic surface space.
