Attic Insulation Photo Album: Stafford VA Hot Room Over a Garage

These homeowners in Stafford VA called us to see if we could help make their sons room over the garage more comfortable. The room was often too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Jason did a full inspection to see what could be done to help. Jason determined that the attic space above the sons room was in need of air sealing and better insulation. Jason also designed their attic project with a radiant barrier to help keep the sun from heating up the attic as much as it had been.

Attic Before

The existing insulation was loose and lacked an air seal. This attic was too hot and it made the room below too hot as well.

The insulation level was too low. The HVACT duct seen here should be buried in insulation and protected.

Insufficient insulation was keeping this home from being comfortable.

Insulation Panels

Silver Glo insulation panels were used on the attic walls. Zyp Foam was sed to air seal the panels. Improved insulation and controlled air flow will help make this attic less hot.

Radiant Barrier

Installing a radiant barrier on the under side of the roof will help to keep the sun rays and external heat from permeating the attic.

Air Sealing

Zyp Foam seals up the small gaps and cracks where air was able to move freely and Spray Foam was used to seal up the HVAC duct.

Attic After

Tru Soft cellulose insulation was blown in to fill up the attic space/ Combined with the air sealing and radiant barrier, this attic will perform much better and allow the room below to be more comfortable.
