Attic Insulation Photo Album: Reston Virginia Attic Insulation and Air Sealing

This homeowner in Reston Virginia had a number of issues with their home performance that they wanted to improve. Rooms over their garage that were too hot in summer and too cold in the winter, uncomfortable temperature changes from one area of the home to the next and a concern about rodents in their attic. We were able to solve these issues with air sealing, insulation panels, spray foam and blowing in cellulose insulation to fill the attic up. The elimination of uncontrolled air loss and the preservation of conditioned air temperatures will make this house more comfortable and energy efficient. Tru Soft cellulose insulation is sprayed with a human safe compound that keeps rodents from burrowing or nesting in it. (it feels like hot sauce to squirrels, mice, raccoons and other critters)

Old Insulation

The old insulation had been working to collect dust, dirt and allergens.

Attic Wall Insulation

This wall was covered with fiberglass insulation but was not covered all the way up. This left space that was able to allow heat or cold to be lost.

Panel Insulation and Spray Foam

Silver Glo panel insulation was used for these walls in the attic and the HVAC duct system was covered with spray Foam insulation.

Air Sealing

Zyp Foam was used to air seal the floor of the attic. Closing up smalls places where uncontrolled air flow was happening.
