Attic Insulation Photo Album: Alexandria Virginia Attic Insulation for Uncomfortable Rooms
This Alexandria Virginia town home had top floor rooms that were uncomfortable at different times of the year. Too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. The home was also experiencing water spots in the ceiling and walls as a result of condensation from the HVAC duct system, otherwise know as "duct sweating".
Our Certified Home Performance Sales Pro Jaron visited with the homeowner to provide a free estimate and was able to design an attic project to help with the comfort issues and duct sweating.
Our production crew started by removing the old insulation in the attic which was too this to be effective and had leftover trash from the original constriction of the home and rodent waste. Once the attic surface was cleared, the production team used Zyp Foam to seal up all of the gaps and cracks where where conditioned air had been able to escape from the rooms below into the attic. Can light covers were used over and lighting fixtures in the attic floor and several other places in the attic which were allowing external air to flow in and were sealed off. Spray foam insulation was used to cover much of the HVAC ducts system, helping to eliminate the duct sweating issues. Decking was built to allow passage through the attic when needed by the homeowner or utility service providers and then finally the whole space was filled with blown cellulose Tru Soft insulation.
Air Sealing
After removing the old insulation, Zyp Foam was used to air seal gaps and cracks that allowed air to move.
Air Sealing
More Zyp Foam filling spaces that were letting conditioned air leak into the attic.
Cellulose Insulation
After air sealing, Tru Soft cellulose insulation was blown in to fill the attic.
Attic Insulation
Blown insulation can cover more space and provide a better R value than traditional fiberglass insulation.
Attic Decking
Our team build out this walk way and walls to allow for movement in the attic and to contain the insulation on the sides.
Attic Access
Building out platforms like this allow for easier access in the attic. This can benefit other home service and utility providers.
