Attic Insulation Photo Album: Herndon Virginia Attic Insulation and Air Sealing

This homeowner in Herndon Virginia called us with an interest to replace their dirty old attic insulation. They had multiple types of insulation in their attic and were still having home comfort issues. Some of the old insulation was dirty and showed signs of conditioned air loss from the rooms of the home below. Our Certified Home Performance Sales Pro Eric went out to deliver a free inspection and designed a plan for multiple areas of the home to help. Spray foam insulation was used in the rim joists of the basement to control the air flow into the bottom of the home and keep external dust, allergens and temperatures from impacting the air inside. The old insulation in the attic was removed before air sealing was done with Zyp Faom and can light covers across the attic floor. Tru Soft cellulose insulation was then blown in to fill the attic area and properly insulate the home.

Old Insulation

This attic has fiberglass insulation along with other insulation blown over top and it was still not helping keep the home comfortable as it should have.

Dirty Insulation

As air was passing into the attic, this insulation was acting like a filter, collecting dust and allergens in the air. This poor quality air moves in and out of the attic as the home breathes.

Air Sealing

Zyp Foam was used to seal all of the gaps and cracks in the attic surface after the old insulation was all removed.

Can Light Coveres

Capping the light fixtures and holes in the ceiling with these covers keeps air from passing through. Zyp Foam air seals the covers along with the rest of the attic surface.

Cellulose Insulation

Tru Soft cellulose insulation was blown into the rest of the attic space after air sealing. This will all work to keep the home more comfortable and eliminate conditioned air loss.
