Dirty Crawl Spaces Mean Dirty Ducts
Look what we found today while sealing and conditioning a crawl space.....yuck! Duct cleaning is in order for sure. New vapor barrier was installed, outside vents sealed, insulation added to the exterior walls of the crawl, and vents added to heat and cool it...
Venting Crawl Spaces
Not all crawl spaces should be vented to the outside! Ever see these vents on the side of a home? They allow outside air to enter the crawl space under the home. If a home that has crawl space vents also has an attic fan, I can almost guarantee the home has high humidity and is VERY uncomfortable. The hot, humid summer air is sucked into the crawl, then into the basement, through the house, through the attic and out the attic fan on the roof. Thus, creating a very high humidity situation that almost no AC system can overcome. Call us to find out how to solve this problem!!!
Problematic Dryer Vent
We were called to this basement because the walls were sweating and the carpets were even damp to the touch. A little investigative work discovered the clothes dryer vent had become disconnected and fallen behind the wall. This was a double whammy....It was letting hot/humid air into the home, and blowing the hot/humid air from the dryer behind the walls which was making them sweat! We replaced the dryer vent and tah-da! A dry, comfortable basement... Problem solved for under $300!
Garages Should NOT Be Connected to a Home Duct System
This photo was taken in a garage in Fairfax AFTER we taped up the supply duct that comes from the home central HVAC system. Connecting your garage to the home ducting system is highly illegal and can KILL you! What if someone starts the car in the garage to warm it up in the winter? Carbon monoxide can then travel into the home through the ducting system and be deadly!

Attic Vent Replacement
A view from the attic after the boot and vent had been removed. Notice the mildew around the edges of the hole and the dirty insulation from air leakage.
Replacement Vent
Another view from the attic after the boot and vent were replaced. Next step is to air seal and insulate around it so this doesn't happen again.
