Our Mission
Here at Comfenergy our goal is to create comfortable homes through maximizing their energy efficiency and decreasing your monthly bills. This process happens through by various means, but most frequently we look to make sure homes are properly insulated. Proper insulation can be addressed from both the interior and the exterior of the home, but in the case of this photo album, we will be looking at cases where we work on the outside.
The Projects
In this photo album you will see our team working to insulate the eaves of multiple homes, insulate exterior walls, and chimney shaft.
Working in the Eaves: Part 1
The eaves of you home are the section of the roof on the end the overhands the walls, creating space between where the water rolls off the roof and your walls. This is where we will be working for the next few photos.
Insulating Eaves
One method of insulating eaves is spray foam which is what we used in this case. Here you can see the spray foam after it has been installed but before we re-seal the area.
Sealing the Eaves
After we have insulated the eaves we have to re-seal them, this is one of our team members doing just that!
Insulating Exterior Walls: Part 1
This home needed insulation in their exterior walls. In this case we remove some siding, cut into the home wrap, and create spaces to insert insulation. This will happen over the course of the next few photos. In this photo you can see that we have removed some siding and cut into the home wrap in the wall and below the sliding glass door.
Insulating Exterior Walls: Part 2
At this point we have cut small holes into the exterior walls, creating space to blow in the cellulose insulation.
Insulating Exterior Walls: Part 3
Here is a photo of our crew actually installing the insulation! For this job we are using TruSoft Blow-In Cellulose Insulation.
Insulating Exterior Walls: Part 4
This is the same process, just under the sliding glass door!
Insulating Exterior Walls: Part 5
Now it is time to seal-up the project and clean up!
Insulating Exterior Walls: Part 6
Once we are finished it will look just as it was before, but now, your home will operate more efficiently and you will be more comfortable!
More Eaves!
This one is another situation in which we need to insulates the eaves. The primary difference in this case versus the previous one is that rather than spray foam we will be using Tru-Soft blow-in insulation (which is being installed with all of the tubes).
More Spray Foam!
This is another shot of using spray foam to insulate the eaves!
The Chimney Chase
This home in Harpers Ferry was losing a lot of energy in their chimney chase and they called us to make it more efficient. The first step will be to remove some siding and see what we are working with.
The Chimney Chase: Part 2
This is what was revealed when we opened up the back of the chimney chase, and older form of insulation. We are gong to replaces this as the next step.
The Chimney Chase: Part 3
Here is the cavity after we have removed the old insulation.
The Chimney Chase: Part 5
The last step is to seal up the chimney chase, replace the siding, and clean up!
Proper Ventilation
It is important to have proper ventilation so that the condition of the air in vents remains where it is supposed to, not compromising the condition of the rest of your home. This inefficiency will leave you uncomfortable and spending more money to try to condition the air quality of the space back to the way you prefer. One thing we do to manage this issue is properly insulate vents internally and externally. This photo shows a small vent which we will insulate inside and out to ensure there are no leaks.
The Chimney Chase: Part 4
The product we will use to insulate this chimney chase is called SilverGlo. SilverGlo is an insulation that is a rigid foam board. This products is made of several layers that all have reflective coating, making this not only a physical thermal insulator, but also effective as radiant barrier. Radiant barrier is a reflective agent that keeps external heat out. SilverGlo is a product only available to those in the Dr. Energy Saver dealership which Comfenergy is a part of. SilverGlo is infused with graphite powder that makes it superior to other rigid foam board insulators.
The Inside
Here is a shot of the vent which we have insulated with ZypFoam.
Exterior Windows
Another product we install to help with energy efficiency is windows! Check out our page here to learn more about them!
