Lowering Utility Bills-Gore, VA
Challenge
A Gore, VA homeowner called Comfenergy to find out how to lower their utility bills. They were exceptionally higher than normal this winter. A full comfort evaluation by Comfenergy revealed that the attic had good insulation, BUT had no air selaing. The homeonwer wanted to merely add more insulation only. The blower door test during the evaluaiton showed the importance of air sealing.....not just insulating.
Solution
Comfenergy moved the existing insulation out of the way in the attic and air selaed (using one part foam) any and all air leakage spots that were visible during the blower door test. After he air sealing was done, Comfenergy added more Tru Soft cellulose to make the ending R value R60.
The homeowner was worried about the added insulation falling on them every time they opened the pull down stairs.
No problem!!! A new zippered attic tent hatch and plywood OSB dams were installed to keep this from happening.
