Cold Room Over Crawl Space
Challenge
A Goldvein, VA homeowner's tv room was always cold in the winter. She had a vented crawl space with a dirt floor. The vents allow cold (or warm) air directly into the home. Floor insulation sags away from the subfloor and cold air gets above it, rendering the insulation useless.
Solution
After doing an evaluation, Comfenergy determined this crawlspace needed to be encapsulated. We seal the vents and any other air leaks. Plastic drainage matting is installed on the floor, followed by Terrablock floor insulation, and then a CleanSpace Liner. Finally, we use closed cell spray foam on the crawl space walls.
In this case, the homeowner's ceiling was also dramatically under insualted. To fix this, we installed dense-packed TruSoft cellulose in the cavity between the drywall ceiling and the roof deck by accessing cavitiies from soffit.
