Making a Home More Comfortable in Bumpass, VA
Challenge
A homeowner in Bumpass, VA gave us a call to do a free evaluation of his home. He was experiencing drafts in the basement and high humidity and uncomfortable temperatures throughout the rest of the house. This was occurring for several reasons. The attic was not properly insulated, allowing air to leak from the top of the house creating stack effect. There were two un-insulated cantilevers that were permitting outside air to get into the house and under the floor. And, the garage was not suitably insulated, making the rooms above it uncomfortable.
Solution
The Comfenergy Crew took many steps to make this homeowner more comfortable in his home. We removed and disposed of the old insulation, air sealed the entire attic, and installed new cellulose insulation to an R value of 49. We insulated the cantilevers with closed cell spray foam, and dense packed the garage ceiling with TruSoft Cellulose insulation. We also installed Rockwool batt insulation in some of the walls and ceilings. Now this home is perfectly air sealed and insulated, resulting in a happy homeowner with a more comfortable home. He now experiences even temperatures throughout the house, low humidity, and lower energy bills.
