Attic Transformation in Rhoadesville, VA

Challenge

Homeowners in Rhoadesville, VA were unhappy with uneven temperatures throughout their house and rising energy bills. The winter season was upon them and they were experiencing cold drafts and an increase in the cost of heating their home. Attic insulation and air sealing play a key role in the comfort and energy efficiency of our homes. Our Sales Professional, Jason, did a thorough inspection during our free home comfort evaluation. He found fiberglass insulation in the attic, which had settled over time and had been acting as an air filter for all of the air escaping the living space. Air escapes through penetrations in the home's construction, such as top plates, plumbing and electrical penetrations, and chimney chutes.

Solution

These homeowners decided to upgrade their attic insulation and our production crew got to work. First, we removed all of the old, ineffective insulation. Then we air-sealed all of the cracks and gaps that were allowing air to escape with expanding spray foam. Eliminating these cracks ensures that any insulation installed afterward has maximum effectiveness. Next, we installed our TruSoft Cellulose Insulation. This environmentally friendly insulation is treated with a non-toxic borate solution that allows it to have a Class 1 Fire Safety rating. It also won't get moldy or attract pests. TruSoft Cellulose insulation has an R-value (insulation value) that is superior to fiberglass and is a superb air-blocker. Tightly packed TruSoft Cellulose provides a thermally efficient, cost-effective, and comfortable solution, which made these homeowners very happy. They almost immediately felt warmer and they called us with joy when their next utility bill came in and was a good bit lower than usual.

Fiberglass insulation will eventually lose effectiveness due to its construction with natural materials. It can easily become dirty, wet, and moldy.

This fiberglass insulation was no longer doing its job. The Comfenergy Production Crew removed it all and properly disposed of it.

Once the old insulation is removed, the production crew can see any cracks and gaps in the attic that need to be air-sealed.

Even though it's a dirty and hard job, our production team keeps a good attitude and works quickly and efficiently.

Air sealing is a very important step in having a comfortable and energy-efficient home.

In order to simply and quickly stop air leakage through can light fixtures, we install can light covers that are designed specifically for this purpose. The TightShell Can Light Cover is made of a fire-retardant material known as Rockwool.
