Purcellville, VA Attic Insulation and Air Seal

Challenge

This home in Purcellville, VA called Comfenergy to "add more attic insulation".  After a thorough home comfort and energy evaluation, we determined that not only did the attic need more insulation. But, there was a tremendous amount of air leakage around the pull down stairs and the tops of the interior walls.

The homeowner confirmed they had high utility bills and needed help with that too.  The heat (that they were paying for) was rising up and out of the home through the walls and attic hatch, and then out of the home!!!

Solution

Comfenergy performed a complete attic air seal where we use one part foam spray to seal the air leakage on the top wall plates, around bathroom exhaust fans, HVAC vents, and any other means for heated/cooled air to leave the home.  Then, we installed a David Lewis pull down stairs cover. This cover is air tight and reflects heat in the Summer months too. Lastly, we added another 10" of TruSoft cellulose insulation to provide a better R value!
