Herndon, VA Townhome Gets Spray Foam Insulation
Challenge
This Herndon, VA townhome had a "bump out" on the back of the master bedroom that made for a huge room. However, it was always colder in the winter and hotter in the summer than the other rooms on the top floor. Using thermal imaging, Comfenergy found sections of missing insulation on the back wall, and a ton of air leakage in these walls.
Solution
Comfenergy took out the drywall and removed and disposed of the old batt insulation. We installed foam boards on the ceiling so that the foam spray insulation had something to adhere to. Each and every cavity was filled using closed cell foam spray. The original batt insulation was R13 and had a ton of air leakage. The new foam spray insulation was 3" thick which is approximately an R20 value. More importantly, there was no possible air leakage when done.
We also sealed the ducting system of leakage from the inside out using Aeroseal duct sealing methods. Now this master bedroom "bump out" can be used all year round!!!
