This historic Waterford, VA home actually hosted George Washington!! The homeowner was looking to lower their utility bills. The house is heated with oil and has central A/C. Both oil and electric bills run high in the summer and winter months.
Solution
A complete crawl space encapsulation was done using TerraBlock insulation on the floor of the crawl. CleanSpace (vapor barrier) was also installed on the floor to keep the new floor joists from rotting. Foam spray was used to air seal the rim joists and also hold the CleanSpace in place. The attic was encapsulated using SilverGlo foam boards and one part foam spray insulation.

This historic Waterford, VA home wanted lower utility bills. The oil bill was high in the winter, and the electric was high in the summer.
George Washington stayed in the home for 2 nights!!!
The crawl space before we began work. There was no vapor barrier or insulation of any kind - this caused moisture and drafts up into the home.
CleanSpace vapor barrier was used to wrap entirely around each post and the walls of the crawl space.
Foam spray insulation was used to hold the CleanSpace in place.
There were some tight spots in this crawl that we literally had to slide through on our stomachs. Look how clean it is now!
Another view of the CleanSpace and foam spray insulation.
SilverGlo used to encapsulate the attic. There will be no heat loss here this winter!
SilverGlo to the rescue! Now the attic/storage areas will be comfortable all year round.
SilverGlo foam boards used as an air seal. They also offer an R20 insulation value too.
