This homeowner in Purcellville, VA was looking to make their kitchen warmer in the winter, and make the house more energy efficient all around.
Solution
Comfenergy performed a complete attic air seal of the attic using one part foam spray. Metal flashing and rock wool insulation were wrapped around the brick/block chimney to keep the TruSoft cellulose insulation away from this potential fire hazard. The attic hatch was covered using 4" thick SilverGlo foam boards to make it air tight and to not lose heated air in the winter.

This beautiful Purcellville, VA home wanted to make their kitchen more comfortable in the winter.
Another view of the home from the outside.....
A picture of the attic before we started. Very little insulation resulting in drafts.
Rafael air sealing the gable end of the attic. There was a fairly large air gap allowing cold air to drop down into the living space.
Donald air sealing the top wall plates in the attic. Cold air can drop down in the walls too, thus making the house colder.
Ariel installing metal flashing around the brick fireplace chimney to make it safer.
The metal flashing when completed. This keeps any/all flammable insulation away from the brick. Safety first!!!
After the metal flashing is installed, we wrap that with rock wool insulation. Another excellent fire-safe type of insulation. After this, the entire attic was blown with more cellulose to bring it up to today's code ratings.
