Crawl Space Insulation in Triangle, VA

Challenge

This Triangle, VA homeowner called Comfenergy to get rid of a mildew odor they had throughout the home. After a full comfort and energy evaluation it was determined the odors were coming from the crawl space. The crawl space was vented and allowed hot, humid air into the crawl space. This hot humid air was hitting cold duct work, black walls, and cold water lines: this made the air condense and created prime conditions for mold and mildew growth.

Solution

The solution by Comfenergy was to completely seal and condition (encapsulate) the crawl space. This crawl space encapsulation would actually have multiple benefits: 1) Eliminate the mold/mildew odor, 2) Lessen the possibility of wood rot in the crawl at the floor joists, 3) Make the floors above the crawl space warmer in the winter, 4) Make the house less drafty, and 5) Lower their utility bills and make the home more efficient.
