This Nokesville, VA townhome owner has respitory issues and was complaining that her neighbors dryer sheets were driving her crazy, and making it impossible for her to breathe. She could smell the dryer sheets from the neighbors on the upper level of her home only. After a full evaluation by Comfenergy we found out how the odors were entering her home.
Solution
Comfenergy discovered that the odors were traveling up through the soffit on the covered front porch and traveling under the floor of the upper level and through the walls. We took apart the covered porch and air sealed the floor and wall of the upper level.
No more dryer sheet odors!
Project Summary
Evaluator: Justin Dobson
This Nokesville, VA town home owner was having issues dealing with the neighbors dryer sheets that exhausted on the front of their town home. She was allergic to them and caused respiratory issues. Take note of the covered front porch!!!
Once the soffit was removed from the front porch you could easily see how the odors were entering the home! Nothing but old fiberglass batts there. Air (and odors) travel through fiberglass.
Here's a better look with our head up in the covered front porch. This is a view between the drywall of the ceiling on the first floor, and the plywood flooring of the second floor. Notice the HVAC vent in the floor of the top floor.
Comfenergy used SilverGlo foam boards and one part foam spray to seal off these areas.
Now odors, hot/cold air, humidity, dust, and anything else can no longer enter or leave the home in this area!!!! Problem solved! NOBODY DOES WHAT COMFENERGY DOES!!!! PERIOD!!!
