Radiant Barrier-McLean, VA
Challenge
This McLean, VA homeonwer was looking for a way to make their tp floor cooler in the summer. The top floor of this home was a 4th floor "loft" of sorts adiant barrier was installed on the roof deck to keep the suns rays with knee-wall attic space on both sides of it causing it to be hot in the summer.
Solution
Comfenergy found that two side of the "Comfort Triangle" were in need of repair. The building envelope had issues with lacking insulation and air leakage. The duct work, which ran through the attic, was poorly insulated and was also leaky. This was causing the air to come out of the HVAC ducting at a temperature higher than the desired temperature in the house.
Comfenergy put together multiple solutions to solve all of these problems. Use of foam spray on the vertical walls and around the ducting to better insulate it and fix the air leaks. Radiant barrier was installed on the roof deck to keep the suns rays from radiating into the top floor.
