This Woodbridge, VA homeowner was having issues with cold drafts entering the home in the winter. The homeowner had tried several times to figure out the issues - Comfenergy was able to provide them a solution. Just another "day at the office" for Comfenergy!
Solution
The comfort and energy evaluation showed many cantilevers on the rear of the home causing drafts. We also found very little to no insulation in the rear wall of the kitchen by using thermal camera photography.
The following pictures shows how Comfenergy solved the problems! No more cold drafts here!!
Project Summary
Evaluator: Scott Beers
This Woodbridge, VA home had issues with cold drafts in the winter. Comfenergy crews are setting up to properly air seal and insulate the rear of this home.
The beginning of opening the cantilevers and other poorly insulated areas.
Cantilevers like this allow cold air into the home in the winter... see the following few pics to see why!
Once the cantilever was opened you can see that no insulation was present, allowing air to travel into the home and especially under the floors.
This picture is taken from inside the cantilever. You can see how cold air can travel beneath the floors and above the ceilings below. This pipe could have easily frozen if it were closer to the exterior of the home.
The cantilevers were sealed and insulated using foam boards and closed cell spray foam.
