The owners of this Annandale, VA rental home wanted to increase the energy efficiency of the home. They also didn't want to spend a lot doing so. They were certain that windows were going to be needed to the tune of $20,000 or more!
Solution
Comfenergy was called in to evaluate the home and give suggestions. None of which were expensive windows. The majority of the air leakage in the home was in the attic above and the vented crawl space below.
The following pictures are from this project. The attic and crawl space air leakage were taken care of, and no windows were harmed in this case study! HAHA!!

This Annandale, VA was in need of some upgrades to help lower the utility costs.
See all that dirty fiberglass insulation? That happens when air leakage exists and the dirt in that air is filtered by the fiberglass insulation. Just like your fiberglass furnace filter!!
One part foam spray seals these leaks and lessen heat loss in the winter, and heat gain in the summer.
A Comfenergy production team member working hard to make this home energy efficient and comfortable.
The finished attic. R60 TruSoft cellulose throughout.
The crawl space looks great now too, and is very efficient.
Dimple matting, TerraBlock floor insulation, a layer of 20 mil CleanSpace vapor barrier, and 2" of closed cell spray foam on the walls and rim joists. BAM!! problems solved!
