This Fredericksburg, VA homeowner was looking to lower their energy bills, specifically in the summer. Your air conditioning system typically accounts for 60% of your electric bills. So, Comfenergy put together a comprehensive plan to lessen their AC usage by air sealing and insulating properly.
Solution
Attic air sealing and insulating is one of the best ways to lessen the usage of AC in the home. This Fredericksburg, VA home had a ton of air leakage through knee-wall attic spaces. Comfenergy used spray foam insulation to accomplish both air sealing and insulating at the same time.
Project Summary
Evaluator: Mike Estrada
This Fredericksburg, VA homeowner was looking to lower their electric bills as their AC ran all the time.
The knee-wall areas were accessed by cutting drywall. We could easily see these areas were the problem during the evaluation with a thermal camera, etc.
Look at how dirty the old fiberglass batt insulation was. This shows how much air moves in these hidden knee-wall areas. The fiberglass filters the dust/pollen out of the air just like your furnace filter.
Removal of some of the old blown insulation. This is a messy job.
Exposed pipes! Later the homeowner confirmed that these pipes had frozen before.

Spray foam being installed. The lighter spray foam to the left is after intumescent paint has been installed per code and to provide a 15 minute fair barrier.
