Photo Album: Vienna VA Attic Insulation and Air Sealing Project

This Vienna VA home had sweating ducts and water damage on the drywall ceiling below the attic. After calling us to come and help, our Sales Pro Eric was able to identify multiple issues going on with the attic that were leading to uncomfortable temperatures from room to room in the home, high energy costs and poor air quality. Our production team came out to remove the original insulation which was poorly installed and acting as a filter for the air leaking from the rooms of the home, into the attic. An air seal was then created using Zyp Foam to seal up all of the cracks and spaces where the air was leaking along with adding fire safe can light covers. Once the air seal was completed, Tru Soft blown in cellulose insulation was used to cover the floor/surface of the attic. This would all help to improve the comfort in the home, reduce the energy costs to heat and cool the home and control the air quality inside.

Dirty Insulation

The black spots in the original insulation for this attic show where air was leaking from the rooms below. The insulation acted as a filter and collected dust and allergens in the air. Proof that an air seal was needed.

Old Insulation

More old insulation improperly placed and not working. Uneven insulation doesn't work. The dark areas show again where dust and allergens were filtered by the insulation as it passed from the rooms of the home below, into the attic. Proof of a needed air sealing.

Air Sealing and Can Light Cover

Each seam and crack in the attic where air could move in or out was sealed up with Zyp Foam. Fire safe can light covers were installed to protect the light fixtures and keep control of the air heated by them.
