Photo Album: Alexandria VA Air Seal and Insulation

While this Alexandria VA home did have insulation in the attic already, the homeowners were still having issues with the comfort in the living spaces of the home as well as higher than normal energy bills.  After having had previous service with waterproofing the lower level of their home through our 3 Pros Basement Systems brand, they called us to see if we could help.  Our Home Performance Sales Pro Eric was able to identify why the attic insulation had not been delivering the desired effects for the home.  There was no air sealing in the attic.  That meant that conditioned air, created by the HVAC system and intended to heat or cool the rooms of the home, was allowed to escape into the attic, resulting in a need for the HVAC system to run and create more conditioned air.  Eric recommended removal of the existing insulation to expose the attic floor and allow for the use of Zyp Foam to seal up all of the small cracks and gaps where air was moving through and to seal up around an old attic vent fan opening which had been drywalled over but was still allowing air to freely pass in and out.  After air sealing with Zyp Foam the attic was filled with Tru Soft blown cellulose insulation. Now this HVAC system will have to create less heated and cooled air and the rooms of the home will be more comfortable.
