Spray Foam Attic Encapsulation - Reston, VA

View Photo Gallery

Challenge

This Reston, VA homeowner had recently moved into their home, but had knowledge of the work Comfenergy does from their previous home in Springfield, VA.  They were looking to make the home as energy efficient as possible.

Solution

Comfenergy evlautor, Carl Depner, offered a great solution of using closed cell spray foam to encapsulate the attic, and turn it into a conditioned space.  All of the existing fiberglass insulation was removed and disposed of.  The soffit vents and ridge vent were sealed off using house wrap.  There is NO ventilation for this attic at all.  No energy loss either!!!

The following pictures show some of the house wrap prep work, and the final product of closed cell spray foam. Intumescent paint is also sprayed over top of the spray foam to provide a thermal barrier to deter the spread of fire!
