Falls Church VA home addition with exposed floors
Challenge
This Falls Church VA home at some point had an addition built on, adding a room on the side of the home. The room was elevated from the ground and had open space below it. Insulation was previously installed to try and help keep outside air and temperatures from impacting the room above. Over time the insulation had fallen away from contact with the flooring above allowing air to move in between the floor and insulation, rather than keeping the two entities apart. Additionally, the netting used to try and hold up the insulation had become a trap for dirt, debris, and even rodents which could become trapped. Looking for a solution to help keep the floors of the room from being cold and a way to better insulate the space, the homeowners called us.
Solution
Expanding spray foam insulation was the answer. After removing the old, existing insulation, we worked to try and box in some water and utility lines to keep them from possibly freezing in the winter. This was done using Tyvek and SilverGlo foam insulation paneling, followed by adding 3 inches of spray foam to insulate and seal the floors and prevent the outside conditions from impacting the homeowners inside of the house. Now the room is more comfortable and the space below looks much cleaner.
