Log Home in Round Hill
Challenge
This log home in Round Hill had a dirt floor cellar beneath it. This made the home drafty, have high energy bills, and was very uncomfortable, especially in the winter. The floor of this home in Round Hill, VA was over 100 years old and original, having gaps between the boards allowing cold air drafts to come up through from below. We knew closed cell foam spray would be the answer....but how to keep it from spraying up into the home from below?
Solution
To fix this home in Round Hill we secured plastic tarps to the under side of the first floor. This keeps the foam spray from shooting through the cracks and into the living space. Foam spray insulation is an excellent product to not only insulate, but seal air gaps, and to provide a moisture and odor vapor barrier. The results were a more comfortable, less drafty home, with lower utility bills. A secondary result according to this homeowner in Round Hill, VA was less bugs in the house escaping the cold winter air in the basement and seeking the warm air in the home!!!
