This Sterling, VA homeowner had a storage "knee-wall" attic area of their home that was cold and drafty. Carl Depner performed a full comfort and energy evaluation to find a ton of air entering this area, AND found uninsulated and leaky HVAC ducting.
Solution
Carl put together a complete solution using closed cell spray foam insulation and "Thermax" foam boards. Thermax foam boards and closed cell spray foam insulation were used to turn this knee-wall area into a conditioned space, thus making it "inside" the building's envelope.
Project Summary
Evaluator: Carl Depner
This knee-wall area was cold and leaky. The HVAC ducting was also leaky and not sufficiently insulated.
Closed cell spray foam insulation was used to seal and insulate both the roof decking and the HVAC ducting. Now the air travelling through the HVAC ducts stayed warm in the winter....and cool in the summer.
Notice the Thermax foam boards also used to perfect the building envelope in this area.
A view of the gable end of the knee-wall attic space. Now a great storage area for anything!!
A close up of the closed cell spray foam, and Thermax being used to create a conditioned storage area. One call does it all from Comfenergy!!!
