Closed cell spray foam is being used in this picture to air seal and provide a thermal barrier for this newly encapsulated crawl space. Closed cell spray foam provides an instant air barrier which keep cold air out of the crawl in the winter, and hot/humid air out of the crawl in the summer. Closed cell is also used below grade like this because it will not allow humidity or vapor to travel through it.
