Spray Foam Insulation Photo Album: Arlington Virginia Cold Room Spray Foam Insulation

This home in Arlington Virginia had an added on sun room over a raised deck space that was too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. The homeowners called us to see if we could help make it more comfortable year round and improve the energy efficiency of the space. Our Certified Home Performance Sales Pro Aaron visited the home for a free inspection and estimate and was able to design a project to solve it. Our production team removed all of the panels below the sun room to expose the flooring. They removed the existing insulation which was ineffective and replaced it with spray foam. Spray foam not only provides the needed insulation to help control the space, but also air seals the floor and frame, keeping uncontrolled air flow from occurring. This eliminates the opportunity for external temperatures and air to impact how it feels inside.

Removing the plywood covering the bottom of the sun room would allow for access to properly insulate the under side of the floor as well as the rim joist of the home.

The existing fiberglass insulation had no air sealing ability so cold air from outside was able to pass through into the sun room above.

Rim Joist Insulation

The frame of the home where the walls and floor to the sun room attached was not air sealed to begin with so insulating it was not working. We removed the existing fiberglass insulation and will seal it with spray foam.
