Attic Storage in Vienna

Homeowner in Vienna needed to organize his attic and create an Insulated Storage Deck

Vienna VA Attic Insulation and Air Sealing Project

This Vienna VA home was uncomfortable and had sweating HVAC ducts.  This happens when the air temperature surrounding the HVAC ducts delivering cooled or heated air to the rooms in your home is  much hotter or colder than the air in the ducts, creating condensation.  The condensation was dripping onto the drywall ceilings and creating water damage.  Our home Performance Sales Pro Eric went out to visit with the homeowner and performed a free Home Performance Inspection.  Eric was able to identify a lack of air seal in the attic that was allowing for conditioned air to leave the rooms of the home below, causing the HVAC system to work harder and create more conditioned air.  He was also able to see that the insulation in the attic was failing and not helping to control the comfort or energy in the home.  Our production team removed the old insulation and then applied Zyp Foam to help air seal the attic before finishing off the project by adding blown in Tru Soft cellulose insulation to cover it all.

In the summer attic temperatures can reach over 120 degrees.  In the winter attic temperatures can drop to below freezing.  Trying to pass cold air through a 120 degree metal HVAC duct in the summer just wont work well and moving heated air through a cold metal HVAC duct in the winter will not either.  this can cause an HVAC system to run more often than it should, increasing energy costs and can leave homeowners with rooms that are less comfortable than others.  We removed the existing insulation in this attic in order to expose the full HVAC duct system so that it could be encapsulated with Spray Foam.  This will protect the conditioned air travelling inside.

Spray Foam in Attic-Fairfax Station, VA

The homeowner of this Fairfax Station historic home was looking for a way to lower their utility bills. The Comfenergy comfort and energy consultant provided a great solution that would lower utility bills all year round, and provide a great storage space in the attic!!

Homeowners often try to get the most possible use out of the space in their home.  That can include turning small sections of attic into storage areas.  This storage space was cold in the winter and hot in the summer and the air inside was impacting the room it was attached to.  Our production team installed Silver Glo insulation panels and sealed them up with Zyp Foam.  This will better regulate the temperature and comfort for the room it is in.
