In addition to air sealing and insulation an attic, it can often be helpful to create a better landing area for someone to stand on when entering the space. Creating a platform such as this one will help to keep insulation from falling into the hallway below and allows for a way to safely stand in the attic to look around or start to access any utilities or storage space.
Having inefficient attic insulation is almost as good as having none at all. This Fairfax VA home had think insulation with gaps between the frame breaks in the attic. Our Home Performance Sales Pro Jon was able to identify this while performing a home inspection and recommended removal of the old insulation, air sealing the gaps and cracks in the attic floor that had been allowing air to pass and then blowing in Tru Soft Cellulose insulation to fill the attic space and properly provide insulation. This home will now be more energy efficient and more comfortable for the people living inside.
This homeowner in Fairfax VA wanted to find a way to reduce their energy costs to heat and cool the home year round. Our Home Performance Expert Carl did a full inspection of the home and was able to design a project to help achieve that goal. In addition to extending and existing bathroom vent and insulating a chimney pipe running through the attic, our Production Team installed a Radiant Barrier on the under side of the roof. This Radiant Barrier will work to keep the external sun rays beating down on the roof from penetrating and heating up the attic. The rest of the attic was air sealed to hold in the conditioned air made for the rooms below. This will all help make the home more comfortable and energy efficient.
There are many places in the frame of a home that can allow for external air and temperatures to impact the comfort inside of the home. This Fairfax Virginia home had cantilevers where the different levels of the home met and they were not insulated. This lead to cold floors inside. Our production crew removed the underside panels of the cantilever and used spray for to air seal and insulate.
This Fairfax VA attic wall didn't stand a chance against outside temperatures without any insulation. Spray foam was used to fill in between the framing to create a better air seal and insulate the attic space from the outside temperatures on the other side of the wall.
